Caroline Isabel Merz

After majoring in piano studies with Prof. Roderburg, Clara-Schumann-Musikhochschule Düsseldorf, Caroline Isabel Merz began her solo singing studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Prof. Lieselotte Egger and Prof. Helena Lazarska.

After only 3 semesters she was engaged as a soloist at the Vienna Volksoper for the first time in the 1989/90 season. There she sang almost all the great Mozart roles, operettas and many German subjects over the years.

In 1992 she was called to the Vienna State Opera. Her roles include: Pamina, Contessa, Donna Anna, Fiordiligi, Konstanze, Queen of the Night, First Lady, Violetta, Mimi, Lucia, Trovatore Leonore, Frau Fluth, Michaela, Norina, Adina, Rosina, Rosalinde, Reagan, Manon, and a lot of contemporary music. .In addition, her work includes a large repertoire of arias and songs – particularly: Strauss, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Copeland, Barber, Rossini, Verdi and Brahms. All the great oratorios and masses were also regularly sung in her concerts.

For about 10 years she has devoted herself to the vocal training of young singers. Since she also did 6-year acting training with Wolfgang Arps from the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, she attaches particular importance to a holistic education – technique, musical understanding, perfect pronunciation, acting and the overall understanding of arias and songs.
