Description

The Magic Flute, K. 620, is an opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. The work is in the form of a singspiel – a popular form at the time of its creation, which included both singing and spoken dialogue. The premiere took place on September 30, 1791 at the Schikaneder Theater, the Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, just two months before the composer’s early death.

The allegorical plot was influenced by Schikaneder’s and Mozart’s interest in Freemasonry and tells the story of Prince Tamino’s initiation. Recruited by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina from the hands of the High Priest Sarastro, Tamino comes to appreciate the latter’s high ideals and joins Sarastro’s community along with Pamina, while the Queen and her allies are defeated.

The vision of the opera created by Anna Długołęcka maintains its simply fairy-tale perspective – the artist designed uniquely beautiful costumes and stage sets using state-of-the-art 3D technology.

In collaboration with the musical director of the performance, Prof. Dariusz Mikulski, an outstanding interpreter of the music of W.A. Mozart, a timeless work of global significance was created.
